The Integration Stage: 58-95 Employees: Organizational ReWilding® Rules for Business Growth (Organizational ReWilding® Rules for Business Growth: The 60-Minute Guide to Growth for Every Stage) Kindle Edition

5.0 5.0 out of 5 stars 6 ratings

A Stage 5 business has between 58-95 employees. It marks a time of integration for a company as the different departments are brought together by an integrated management team. Profit is a top priority to ensure that enough capital is generated to sustain a larger organization. The organization should exhibit twice as much confidence as caution in support of the focused change needed to install a Leadership Team and continue to pursue new opportunities. The leader needs to primarily guide through collaboration, inspire the team with a grand vision, and build loyalty through comradery.

This book concisely presents the research-based rules for growth that will guide a business owner through the challenges of running a Stage 5 business. The chapters are based on the unique dimensions of the Stages of Growth methodology, and include an introduction to each topic as well as the specific findings for Stage 5 organizations.

Nearly every dimension represents an ideal for businesses to follow. For that reason, after the definition of each dimension, you’ll find a section that illustrates what happens when a business is out of alignment with the ideal. This brief example serves to cement the concepts that have been discussed and bring each dimension down to a more tangible level.

To help you put the information to use immediately, there is also an application section at the end of each chapter. You’ll find three or four questions to help you reflect on the material and apply it to your business, as well as a tip that you can carry with you.

Every business owner’s journey is different, but that doesn’t mean you have to forge a path on your own. Glean valuable resources from this book and visit us online for even more: www.ReWildGroup.com.

In my early years as a professional, I worked in the data analytics field in both technical and management roles within the legal and business markets. Though I found success in those positions, after decades as an employee the calling to create something of my own became louder than ever. I owe that entrepreneurial bent to my dad, who was a small business owner.

Fast forward 30 years and I’m running my own business. Different industry, different location, but I’m following in the footsteps of my dad. That’s why it was so difficult for me to receive a valuation of my company and realize that, after 12 years of enormous sacrifice and hard work, my company was worth far less than I expected.

I wanted a successful exit from my business. I wanted to do everything within my power to leverage what I had built and make it attractive for someone to buy one day.

I started looking around for solutions, and that’s when I came across the Stages of Growth methodology. I took those principles and concepts and applied them to my business. The results were extraordinary. In just three years, the value of the company increased 10x. I sold my business at a price that truly reflected my investment.

I could have retired at that point. But after experiencing the power of the Stages of Growth methodology, I wanted to bring it to the market so that others could benefit too.

That’s how the ReWild Group was born.

The books you’ll find here are based on the Organizational ReWilding Stages of Growth. I truly believe in the power of this business growth framework to help business owners navigate the inherent challenges they face. If you have questions about my work or would like to discuss one of the concepts from the books, I invite you to schedule a 15-minute Zoom call: https://calendly.com/mpohl-rewild/guidebook-chat-with-the-author.

When I’m not writing or consulting, I enjoy being outdoors in the beautiful state of Colorado I call home, spending time with my wife, four kids, and six grandkids.

Author Matthew Pohl has concisely captured and presented the findings of over 30 years of research - studying more than 1,300 small and midsize businesses – sharing the critical elements that deliver profitable business growth. To grow, companies must manage progressive complexity and change. Research shows that complexity in a business most correlates with the number of employees, rather than the industry or annual revenue. Research also identifies seven distinct business growth stages. Correlating stages of growth with number of employees – each stage spans a range of employees where there are unique patterns and rules that must be in alignment for permanent, profitable growth to occur. When businesses fail to align with these patterns and rules, they stall or sometimes regress to a prior stage.

Stage 5 is about integration (spanning 58 to 95 employees) preventing the development of professional depth within different functions of the company achieved in Stage 4 from becoming silos. Have the Leadership Team revamp the business model and create a fully integrated annual budget utilizing KPI’s throughout the organization. Employ a common project management process to keep all initiatives on track. Keep capacity utilization between 70-80% to maintain profitability for growth.

In each Stage of Growth, there are 11 elements that need to be in alignment in order to progress. The details for these elements are captured in the following categories: Gates of Focus, Classic Challenges, Builder-Protector Ratio, Modality, Leadership Style Blend, Three Faces of a Leader, Non-Negotiable Rules, Culture Elements, Infrastructure Elements, Leadership Elements and Strategy Elements. Normally, our success rewards us with the knowledge of what works, however, in each stage there are several elements where the correct blend of factors that led to success in a prior stage are no longer the correct blend of factors for the next stage. This is why Matthew Pohl’s books are so valuable for the reader. As a minimum, I would recommend reading the book matching the stage you are in, the prior stage and the next stage. This will provide you the insights for what should be in place in order to hold your gains, and what needs to change in order to sustain your growth momentum. You’ll appreciate the books are well written and fast to read – yet packed with powerful insights that will propel your success.
